4 Things You Need To Know Before Jailbreaking Your iPhone 5

iphone3Owners of iPhone are always on the lookout for the latest news in jailbreaking. Recently, news came out that there is already a jailbreak method for the iPhone 5, after a considerably long wait. This jailbreak will bypass the newly released iOS 6.1. However, before jailbreaking your device, there are four important things that you need to be aware of.

First, there are iOS devices that will not be supported by the iOS 6.1 jailbreak. These devices include iPhone 2G, iPod Touch 1 – 3G, iPad 1, iPhone 3G, and Apple TV 3. Actually, the group of hackers who calls themselves as the Evad3rs had been working hard just to make this jailbreak possible. It took months of hard work before it all paid off. Now, iOS 6.1 jailbreaking platform will be supporting a full gambit of Apple’s iOS devices including the iPad mini and the iPhone 5. This means that if your device is supported, you will be able to install Cydia after the jailbreak.

Second, before jailbreaking your iPhone 5, you must create a back-up of all of your data and files. You can store your back up using iTunes or iCloud. This will be retrieved once you decide to restore your device after the iOS 6.1 jailbreak. Though this is not a requirement, it is however strongly advised that you always keep a back up file that you can retrieve in case something unexpected happens during the process.

You can check and ensure that you have the latest iCloud backup or you can also plug the device to iTunes to do a manual back up. Although keeping a backup with iCloud may be seem more convenient, locally storing your files with iTunes allows you to restore your iPhone 5 quickly. But if you are still using iOS 5, ensure that you have a separate backup for your Cydia packages for easier retrieval.

Third, it is strongly recommended that you jailbreak a newly installed iOS 6.1. Although it is okay to update your operating system to iOS 6.1, the jailbreak process works better if you completely delete your iOS. Basically, the process of jailbreaking takes longer on devices that are loaded with media and app. For best results, it is recommended that you jailbreak your devices with a freshly installed iOS 6.1 then simply use your backup to restore the apps after the jailbreak. Technically, the device is jailbroken but you can still have all your setting and data back.

In case you haven’t updated your device to iOS 6.1, you simply need to download it from the Apple App Store then store it in your computer. During the jailbreak process, you just store it locally using iTunes and then click ‘Restore’ while you are holding the option key on Mac or the Alt key in Windows. Select your stored iOS 6.1 and install it in the hard drive of your computer. This will save you the time and effort of downloading the 6.1 version again and then re-installing again after jailbreak.

It is important that you don’t restore the backup immediately after the jailbreak process. Wait after your stock of iOS 6.1 is installed in a jailbroken device then restore the backup.

Finally, you need to properly comply with the requirements and follow advises from the Evad3rs team so that you ensure of getting good results. This will also help you in ensuring that your iPhone 5 will not be open to risks of damaging it during the process. When the entire procedure is done, you can then enjoy your freedom and customize your phone as you wanted.
